Powerful Pocket Laser Unveiled at VDV/IBS Conference
|
April 14, 2004
A new, high-powered Pocket Fault Locator from Fiber Instrument Sales, Inc. (FIS) generated a lot of interest at the VDV/Integrated Building Systems Conference held in Las Vegas, NV this spring.
The testing device injects powerful 650nm laser light into optical fiber to detect breaks or "faults" in the fiber that could hinder signal transmission. Breaks or excessive bends can be detected over distances up to 7km on singlemode fiber, and up to 5km on multimode fiber. Priced at only $139.95, the device drew a lot of interest at the show.
Exceeded Expectations
According to Kirk Donley, FIS Vice President of Sales, "This is the first time that FIS has participated in the VDV/IBS Conference, and it proved to be an excellent fit for our products and services. People who saw our Fiber Optics and Security Products Catalogs were amazed at the size and scope of our product line. Also, the conference included several fiber optic workshops that further generated interest in our products."
IBEW Union
"The icing on the cake was when the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union included our Pocket Fault Locator in their list of important products. They distributed the list to their members and encouraged them to learn about each item while at the show, almost like a scavenger hunt. Our product was at the top of the list, which generated many additional visitors to our booth."
Made in the U.S.A.
Mr. Donley said that the high quality and low cost of the new Pocket Fault Locator proves that U.S. companies can compete with foreign manufacturers. "The unit features a powerful -.5 dBm laser, rugged heavy-gauge knurled aluminum body, multi-function switch for both continuous and modulated operation, and 50 hour battery life. The package includes a 2.5 Universal Adapter, and a thick padded case. Priced under $140, people felt it was an exceptional value."
The FIS Pocket Fault Locator can be seen in the company's 90-page Fiber Optics Product Catalog. To receive a free Fiber Optics and/or Security Products Catalog, contact FIS at 800-500-0347. |
