RoHS Introduction

As a result of environmental concerns and the desire to protect human health, the EU (European Union) has legislated the elimination / restriction of certain hazardous materials in electrical & electronic equipment.

RoHS-Compliant Products - what does it mean?

A number of jurisdictions around the globe have proposed regulations that would restrict the use of lead (Pb) and other hazardous substances in electronic products.

The RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive 2002/95/EC states that: "Member States shall ensure that, from 1 July 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market does not contain lead, mercury, cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)."

Transition to RoHS-Compliant products at FIS

FIS is in the process of converting its products to be RoHS-compliant. Most of our products are RoHS-compliant as of today. FIS, as a leading fiber optic distribution company, is committed to providing its customers with full compliancy with RoHS directives where they are applicable. FIS is closely working with its vendors to insure full compatibility to the RoHS legislation and is transforming its Bill-of-Materials to comply to directive demands.

RoHS Compliancy in FIS Products

Two Easy Conversion Options

FIS is committed to easing the transition from non-Pb-free to Pb-free products by providing flexible options that meet the needs of our customers:

1. I need confirmed RoHS products.

FIS is gradually migrating all products to RoHS compliance. Most of our products are compliant today and we expect all will be in the near future. Because FIS is one of the leading distributors of fiber optic products we are sometimes limited to the timeline of our suppliers.

2. I don't need RoHS products yet.

FIS will make available a limited supply of non-RoHS products in order to support existing designs. As our standard inventories transition from non-RoHS to RoHS and designs migrate to ROHS, Non-RoHS products support will eventually end.
