The ATLAS OTDR by FIS is the perfect handheld testing device for a range of fiber optic applications. With a dynamic range of 26dB it can test through a 1x8 splitter for FTTH applictions. It has an on-board Visual Fault Locator, Power Meter, Light Source; having the capability of an all-in one optical loss test set (OLTS). The ATLAS OTDR stores files in the commonly used .SOR format and comes with reporting software that will print large batches of OTDR scans into professional, easy to read PDF reports. What’s also included is our user friendly graphical mapping software or called “gMAP”. This alternative OTDR scan allows even the most inexperienced user to easily interpret the information needed to identify, troubleshoot and verify the important characteristics of a fiber optic cable installation.

ThunderBolt Test Kits

These special FIS made test kits allow the user to perform OTDR scans as well as take accurate dB loss readings for end-to-end link verification. The kit includes the standard version of our ThunderBolt OTDR, a power meter & light source kit with reference cords, a mini-VFL, and a special cleaning kit.

Our fiber optic test kit, proudly manufactured in Upstate NY, includes a power meter calibrated for six wavelengths and a unique duplex LC/UPC optical light source. The fixed duplex LC port allows independent operation of 1310 & 1550nm wavelengths. With a 2kHz tone modulation for fiber identification, the kit comes complete with a connector ferrule cleaner and necessary accessories for dB loss testing. Kit Contents: FIS Power Meter, FIS Dual SM Light Source(1310/1550), FIS Connector Cleaner, Patch cords (2 each - LC, SC, and ST, Mating Sleeves (2 each - LC, SC and ST), Soft Carry Case and User Manual.

This rugged, weather and shock resistant MPO VFL for Multimode or Singlemode cable assemblies is a great troubleshooting tool that is needed to establish or confirm polarity, continuity, and macrobends within an MPO optical system. If no breakout cassette is present, the polarity verifier unit (F1-OPV), when used on the far end of a MPO/MTP cable can provide the user a quick, safe and easy determination of continuity and polarity of the fibers within the MPO cable assembly. This new one of a kind product is a must for any pre- and post-installation technician!

The new FIS Mini MPO Visual Fault Locator is able to test all channels utilizing two sources with source "A" lighting up channels 1 thru 6 and source "B" lighting up channels 7 thru 12. As with most MPO networks, continuity and polarity verification can prove challenging and time consuming. Traditional methods involve expensive breakout cables and single fiber visual fault locators, checking only one channel at a time. The new Mini MPO Visual Fault Locator made by FIS, allows the user to quickly ensure the proper continuity of all channels of the MPO cable with visible light. Its handheld design, coupled with its straight forward easy to use keypad interface will determine if all channels are properly installed.

With the steady increase of utilizing 40 and 100 Gig systems using Multimode MPO assemblies, the “SR4” polarity verifier has proven to be a very useful setup around the industry.  As with most MPO networks, continuity and polarity verification can prove challenging and time-consuming.  Traditional methods involve expensive breakout cables and single fiber visual fault locators, checking only one channel at a time.  The new SR4 Visual Verifier made by FIS, allows the user to quickly ensure the proper continuity of the first four and last four channels of the MPO cable with visible light.  Its handheld design, coupled with its straightforward easy to use keypad interface will determine if all channels are properly installed.

As an accessory, the Optical Polarity Verifier can be used to confirm proper continuity with SR4 configurations if an MPO breakout cassette is not available. It is also utilized in confirming A, B, and C polarities in traditional MPO networks.

The FIS Fiber Optic Pocket Fault Locators are designed to be rugged, compact, and lightweight. These units are 7.1" in length and weigh approximately 4.5oz. With a 30-hour battery life in continuous mode and 40 hours in modulated mode, the bright 650nm (red) laser which has a range of up to 5Km ensures the fast and easy location of fault points within fiber optic patchcords, patch panels, and enclosures. They can also be used to identify fibers in multi-fiber cables, and it is designed for both singlemode and multimode fiber optic applications. These units are shipped with two "AA" batteries and a belt holster.

This adapter allows you to convert the 2.5mm adapter on your VFL into a 1.25mm ferrule typically for LC style connectors.

Fiber Instrument Sales introduces its Dual Source Visual Fault Locator specially made for duplex LC connectors. Because LC connectors are commonly clipped together this product eliminates the common mistake that is made of crossing Tx and Rx patch cords to active equipment. This unit allows the user to toggle between the “A” and “B” sources to ensure that everything is properly connected.

The FIS Visual Fault Locator is an essential tool for troubleshooting a fiber optic system. A 1mW packaged laser sends a 650nm visible red light down the length of the fiber. The escaping light allows easy identification of breaks or severe macro bends. Internal optics are used to optimize the unit’s performance for either singlemode or multimode applications. Fiber end identification and continuity testing for long distances are also natural applications.

A Continuity Tester enables you to easily verify light throughput as the LED transmits red light down the fiber, providing visual identification at the fiber’s far end. Operates with two “AA” size batteries (provided).

This 12 Fiber MPO/MTP Test Set will provide the technician with link attenuation readings over all 12 fibers of the MPO/MTP ferrule in 10 seconds. MPO/MTP connectors are growing in popularity so the ability to measure efficiently, quickly and accurately the correct location of each fiber and its attenuation can assist technicians with certification. Ever increasing network speeds and tighter loss budgets make qualifying multimode fiber links a formidable challenge. Part of the challenge can stem from test instruments. In some scenarios different test instruments can produce different measurement results on the same network due to variations in launch conditions between test sources. Encircled Flux (EF) standards, TIA-526-14-B and IEC 61280-4-1 Ed. 2.0, define a method of controlling multimode launch conditions for optical test sources. More consistent test source launch conditions equate to more accurate and repeatable measurements. This is the goal driving the migration to encircled flux standards.

FIS Ruggedized Loss Test sets are designed to withstand outdoor field environments where traditional handheld units are not appropriate. Units are available for both multimode and singlemode applications and run on re-chargeable NiCd batteries. Please specify ST or FC adapter style when ordering any FIS Ruggedized Test Equipment. The Power Meter has an easy to read LCD display and germanium detector incorporating three wavelength (850nm, 1300nm, 1550nm) measurement capability. The Light Source is a dual wavelength source with a continuous wave or 2KHz modulation. The 850nm and 1300nm light source is for multimode applications. The 1310nm and 1550nm Light Source is for singlemode applications.

Purchase our handheld series power meter and light source kit. They come in either Singlemode, Multimode, or Quad versions. Included are a carrying case, reference cords, mating sleeves needed for testing SC, ST, and LC terminated cables, operating manuals, and batteries. The Power Meters are supplied with universal 2.5mm and 1.25mm adapter caps. Other interchangeable adapters are available for purchase separately.

A power meter is the essential tool for measuring optical power within a fiber optic link. The FIS
Power Meter is a solid performer, with 0.01dB resolution. Standard FIS units test from +5dBm to
-65dBm, and FIS CATV units test from +23dBm to -45dBm.

The FIS Light Source is the perfect match for the FIS Power Meter. Singlemode units are equipped with lasers having a typical output power of -1.0dBm. Multimode units have LED’s with a minimum output of -17dBm.

The new FIS E-Series Power Meter and Light Sources are also available in kits. The FIS Fiber Ranger is portable, rugged, lightweight, and easy to use. Up to 8 fiber faults can be detected in each measurement. The FIS Fiber Optic Talk Set units are designed for transmitting voice in both directions on a single fiber using two different wavelengths. Works with SM or MM fiber. The use of mandrels in multimode insertion loss testing helps to ensure the proper launch condition into the fiber under test. By wrapping the fiber around the correct size mandrel, high order modes are stripped out and low order modes are spread out to achieve the desired launch conditions for testing. Each includes the mandrel and clip for holding the cable firmly in place during testing. Accepts jacket diameters from 1.6mm to 3.0mm and for use with both OM1, OM2 cable. When testing Corning CleareCurve fiber it requires a smaller 4mm radius mandrel which is available.

This Fiber Inspection Probe, our newest offering at FIS, is loaded with features at a comparably low cost. The ergonomic hand held design can be used in a completely vertical/horizontal fashion or it can fold inward to about a 45 degree angle allowing it to be used in a number of positions within anenclosure or patch panel.

With the push of one button the probe will lock onto the connector end faceimage, automatically center and focus it and then analyze it against theindustry I.E.C. end face inspection criteria to display a PASS or FAIL. The probehas a WiFi USB adapter that can be used to transfer saved data wirelessly to a laptop or computer. USB hardwire connection also is available.

This American made high resolution benchtop microscope for inspecting connector end faces works great with large core fiber or standard optical fiber. It is made with a powder coated aluminum housing that will sit firmly on any surface for your benchtop/laboratory set up. This microscope is available in 200x or 400x magnification power and includes an interchangeable 2.5mm universal adapter which allows for the inspection of SC, ST, and FC connectors. This microscope allows the user to manually center the image by turning the easily accessible centering adjustment knobs, so you’ll never have to tolerate an off-centered image.
