Mechanical Splicing

The ULTRAsplice® is a high performance, easy to install reusable mechanical splice. It accepts fiber buffer sizes from 250µm-900µm. The average loss is .2dB with a fiber retention of over 2 lbs. Cleave, insert the fibers and secure by twisting a locking nut. US-126 is IBM #33G8228. Meets and exceeds Telcordia specifications.

With a self-gripping clamshell design this unique splice allows users to achieve a superior pull strength of 1.5 lbs by simply using super glue. Its design allows use in several splice trays, accepts 125µm clad Singlemode or Multimode with a typical loss of .2dB. Also available in the FIS Mechanical Splice Kit.

The improved FIS Elastomeric Lab Splice is ideal for making temporary fiber connections and can be reused hundreds of times. To use the splice for instrument testing, simply insert a cleaved pigtail from OTDR or Power Meter and the cleaved unconnectorized fiber to be tested. Excellent for both Multimode and Singlemode fiber, the splice accepts fiber cladding diameters of 125µm to 140µm. The Lab Splices are supplied in blister packs of 6 (containing one of each color: pink, peach, yellow, green, blue and purple) or 12 (containing 2 of each color.)

The Fibrlok has an insertion loss <.2dB with a fiber retention of >7.75 lbs. Known for low reflection characteristics of -35dB. Using V groove technology, it requires no epoxy. Uses Fibrlok assembly tool 2501. Splice completed in 30 seconds after preparing fiber ends. Thermal stability of -40ºC to 80ºC. Now Fibrloks fit 250-900µm buffer sizes. Note: 2539 does not require 2501 tool for assembly.

This easy to install one size fits all mechanical splice features “Cam” locking mechanism, which requires no adhesive. The CamSplice incorporates a unique alignment method that self centers fibers, providing accurate alignment. Splice losses of less than 0.5dB are consistently achievable. Fits 250/250µm, 250/900µm and 900/900µm.

Available from FIS is a metallic protection sleeve that slips over mechanical splices for rugged protection. Install the tube and supplied shrink tubes onto the cable before installation and apply a heat source to fix housing into position. Accepts 95-000-04, US126, 2529, F1-MC125 splices offered above.
