Fiber Optic Cleavers
A cleave must be clean, smooth and perpendicular. The ends need to mate properly. You must have a precision cleaver to do this. Poor cuts result in reflection and light loss. Fusion splicing requires the use of a precision cleaver, as opposed to a less expensive field cleaver (beaver cleaver) that is sometimes used to prepare fiber for mechanical splicing. You need to determine how many fibers you will be cleaving at one time. Strong, low loss fusion splices begin with a good cleave. A good cleaver will provide you with the precise end face geometry required to prepare fiber for fusion splicing.
Don't waste your time or money on a substandard cleaver. Do the numbers. How many connectors do you have to throw away before it pays to buy a better cleaver?

A fiber optic cleaver has one and only one function, to cut fiber with great accuracy.

In terms of performance, you will find that the LYNX Precision Fiber Optic Cleaver is on par with other, more expensive fiber optic cleavers. In terms of price, this fiber optic cleaver beats them all! The LYNX Precision Fiber Optic Cleaver provides the clean, accurate cleaves that are essential for fiber optic fusion splicing. You will find that the LYNX Precision Fiber Optic Cleaver is also ideal for preparing optical fiber for quick-term fiber optic connectors such as Bobtails, UNICAMs, and so forth. This Precision Fiber Optic Cleaver features a cleave angle of 90 degrees +/- 0.5 degrees. Its 16-position blade provides you with approximately 48,000 cleaves and the unit features a built-in fiber waste receptacle. LYNX cleaves single optical fibers (250-900µm). You can use LYNX Precision Fiber Optic Cleaver alone or mounted to an optional Work Tray that includes a goose neck LED. You can also use the tray as a work platform for the FIS Bobtail Fiber Optic Connector Holder.

The newest addition to the LYNX family of precision cleavers is the Premium LYNX3000: it keeps all the benefits of the LYNX family with the premium 1-step cleave process and high precision 90 degree cleave angle, but also introduces an auto-rotating cleaver blade for maximum blade life and minimal technician maintenance. The LYNX3000 includes a built in fiber shard receptacle.

Just one step does it with the LYNX2000 One Step Cleaver. Same as our Lynx Precision Cleaver with Fiber Basket (3 steps) in terms of performance. The LYNX2000 is perfect for preparing fibers for fusion splicing or for termination using quick term connectors. You can use LYNX Precision Fiber Optic Cleaver alone or mounted to an optional Work Tray that includes a goose neck LED. You can also use the tray as a work platform for the FIS Bobtail Fiber Optic Connector Holder.

The CT50 Cleaver features automated blade rotation, unprecedented durability, and simplistic maintenance unseen with any other cleaver. Paired with a Bluetooth enabled Fujikura splicer, cleaver blade positions can be automatically advanced when needed based on cleave count or cleave quality. If automated rotation is not desired, the blade position can be advanced at the touch of a button, no tools required. The easy to read blade position indicator clearly displays the selected position. The Bluetooth feature, along with simplified mechanical operation, increases overall productivity and reliability. The fiber clamp opens beyond 90 degrees and readies the blade for cleaving in the same motion. This allows easy viewing of the distance scale used to gauge cleave length. The 16-position blade yields 60,000 single-fiber cleaves, or 5,000 12-fiber ribbon cleaves. The built-in scrap collector conveniently stores fiber shards until they can be safely discarded.

The CT08 Cleaver is an extremely rugged, durable, and easy to use single fiber cleaver. Ideal for FTTH applications, the CT08 provides unmatched levels of impact resistance and also eliminates the requirement for tools during blade rotation. A thumbwheel on the bottom of the cleaver is utilized for blade rotation, and the blade position indicator has been relocated to enable quick and easy viewing. The top clamp opens to a position past vertical allowing for easy viewing, cleaning, and adjustment of the cleave length. The blade is retracted automatically when opening the top clamp and is activated upon closing, making this a true one-step cleaver. The cleaver blade and fiber clamping mechanism are extremely easy to replace in the field. A manual scrap collector is included.

The Fitel S326A Precision Cleaver solves the dilemma of stray fibers with a unique disposal system incorporated into the design. The automatic cleave function provides constant cleaving pressure and improves cleave quality. The cutting blade locks into place after scoring, preventing double scoring. Also can be used to cleave ribbon fiber.

The FIS F1-6000 Cleaver is a single fiber cleaver designed to accommodate either 900µm buffered or 250µm coated fiber. The F1-6000 cleaver's quick and easy three-step operation is well suited for mechanical splice and quick termination field connector applications. The leaf spring base is ruled to allow for cleave lengths of 2 to 20mm. The standard carbide blade will perform up to 6000 cleaves before replacement.

Built on a robust high-quality platform, the FC-6M Cleaver is ideal for use with fusion splicing or other precision applications, setting a new standard for flexibility and performance. Can be used for single fiber or up to 12 count ribbon fibers. Utilizes an automatic anvil drop for fewer steps and cleave accuracy. Blade height and rotation adjustment. Has an automatic scrap catcher. This cleaver is operated with minimal steps.

With the introduction of the FC-6RMC Cleaver, you now can have the ultimate precision tool for your single and mass/multiple fiber cleaving with a rotating blade. As part of the FC-6 family of precision fiber cleavers, it is a simple operation for the user to remove or install the single fiber adapter and alternate between mass and single fiber cleaving. An optional fiber scrap collector can be installed to help maintain loose scraps resulting from the cleaving process. The scrap collector works to automatically grab and store the scrap fibers as the cleaver's lid is raised, following a perfectly completed cleave. This cleaver uses an automatic anvil drop for fewer required steps and better cleave consistency. It prevents double scoring of the fibers. The auto rotating blade saves technician time in the field.

The FC-8R Cleaver is Sumitomo Electric Lightwave's newest 1-Step optical fiber cleaver with automatic blade rotation and a digital cleave counter. It is the ideal tool for use in fusion splicing, field terminations, or any application that requires precision in a confined space. It has a simple cleaving operation that can be performed in the palm of the hand, allowing the user to take the cleaver to the fiber in limited slack or cramped applications. A built-in extra large fiber scrap collector handles scrap fibers resulting from the cleaving process. With each cleave, the blade is automatically rotated to a new scoring position on the cleaver blade. The automatic blade rotation feature ensures that the user receives the maximum number of precision cleaves from each and every cleaver blade.
