Advancements In Cleaver Technology

A fiber optic cleaver has one and only one function, to cut fiber with great accuracy. A cleave must be clean, smooth and perpendicular. The ends need to mate properly. You must have a precision cleaver to do this. Poor cuts result in reflection and light loss. Fusion splicing requires the use of a precision cleaver, as opposed to a less expensive “field cleaver” (beaver cleaver) that is some-times used to prepare fiber for mechanical splicing. You need to determine how many fibers you will be cleaving at one time. Strong, low loss fusion splices begin with a good cleave. A good cleaver will provide you with the precise end face geometry required to prepare fiber for fu-sion splicing. Don’t waste your time or money on a substandard cleave. Do the numbers. How many connectors do you have to throw away before it pays to buy a better cleaver? Questions? Talk with an expert. 1-800-5000-FIS. Outside the U.S. +1 315 736 2206.

FIS Lynx One-Step Deluxe Cleaver

AFL CT50 FIBER CLEAVER

The CT50 features automated blade rotation, unprecedented durability, and simplistic maintenance unseen with any other cleaver. Paired with a Bluetooth enabled Fujikura splicer, cleaver blade positions can be automatically advanced when needed based on cleave count or cleave quality. If automated rotation is not desired, the blade position can be advanced at the touch of a button, no tools required. The easy to read blade position indicator clearly displays the selected position. The Bluetooth® feature, along with simplified mechanical operation, increases overall productivity and reliability. The fiber clamp opens beyond 90 degrees and readies the blade for cleaving in the same motion. This allows easy viewing of the distance scale used to gauge cleave length. The 16-position blade yields 60,000 single-fiber cleaves, or 5,000 12-fiber ribbon cleaves. The built-in scrap collector conveniently stores fiber shards until they can be safely discarded.

AFL CT08 Cleaver

AFL CT08 CLEAVER

The CT08 cleaver is an extremely rugged, durable, and easy to use single fiber cleaver. Ideal for FTTH applications, the CT08 provides unmatched levels of impact resistance and also eliminates the requirement for tools during blade rotation. A thumbwheel on the bottom of the cleaver is utilized for blade rotation, and the blade position indicator has been relocated to enable quick and easy viewing. The top clamp opens to a position past vertical allowing for easy viewing, cleaning, and adjustment of the cleave length. The blade is retracted automatically when opening the top clamp and is activated upon closing, making this a true one-step cleaver. The cleaver blade and fiber clamping mechanism is extremely easy to replace in the field. A manual scrap collector is included.

OFS S326A PRECISION CLEAVER SINGLE FIBER

The Fitel S326A precision cleaver solves the dilemma of stray fibers with a unique disposal system incorporated into the design. The automatic cleave function provides constant cleaving pressure and improves cleave quality. The cutting blade locks into place after scoring, preventing double scoring. Also can be used to cleave ribbon fiber.

FIS F1-6000 Fiber Optic Field Cleaver

FIS F1-6000 FIBER OPTIC FIELD CLEAVER

The FIS F1-6000 is a single fiber cleaver designed to accommodate either 900μm buffered or 250μm coated fiber. The F1-6000 cleaver's quick and easy three-step operation is well suited for mechanical splice and quick termination field connector applications. The leaf spring base is ruled to allow for cleave lengths of 2 to 20mm. The standard carbide blade will perform up to 6000 cleaves before replacement.

FITEL S315 SINGLE FIBER FIELD CLEAVER

The FITEL S315 Single Fiber Field Cleaver is designed for cleaving fiber in the field quickly and easily. The S315 Field Cleaver can accommodate 0.25 mm and 0.9 mm coating diameters and their small lightweight size makes them the perfect addition to any field splicing system. The S315 field cleaver requires some skill to achieve the desired cleave angle and may not be appropriate for some splicing applications.

Sumitomo Precision Cleaver Dual Purpose With Catcher

SUMITOMO PRECISION CLEAVER DUAL PURPOSE WITH SCRAP CATCHER

Built on a robust high-quality platform, the FC-6M is ideal for use with fu-sion splicing or other precision applications, setting a new standard for flexibility and performance. Can be used for Single or mass fiber of up to 12 count optical fiber. Utilizes an automatic anvil drop for fewer steps and cleave accuracy. Blade height and rotation adjustment. Has an automatic scrap adjustment. Operated with minimal steps.

SUMITOMO FC-6R PRECISION CLEAVER FOR SINGLE & MASS FIBER

With the introduction of the FC-6R, you now can have the ultimate precision tool for your sin-gle and mass/multiple fiber cleaving with a rotating blade. As part of the FC-6 family of pre-cision fiber cleavers, it is a simple operation for the user to remove or install the single fiber adapter and alternate between mass and single fiber cleaving. An optional fiber scrap col-lector can be installed to help maintain loose scraps, resulting from the cleaving process. The scrap collector works to automatically grab and store the scrap fibers as the cleaver’s lid is raised, following a perfectly completed cleave. This cleaver uses an automatic anvil drop for fewer required steps and bet-ter cleave consistency. It prevents double scoring of the fibers. The auto rotating blade saves technician time in the field.

Sumitomo FC-8R Precision Handheld Cleaver One Step Process

SUMITOMO FC 8R PRECISION HANDHELD CLEAVER ONE STEP PROCESS

The FC-8R is Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s newest 1-Step optical fiber cleaver with auto-matic blade rotation and a digital cleave counter. It is the ideal tool for use in fusion splic-ing, field termination, or any application that requires precision in a confined space. It has a simple cleaving operation that can be performed in the palm of the hand, allowing the user to take the cleaver to fiber in limited slack or cramped applications. A built-in extra large fi-ber scrap collector handles scrap fibers resulting from the cleaving process. With each cleave, the blade is automat-ically rotated to a new scoring position on the cleaver blade. The automatic blade rotation feature ensures that the user receives the maximum number of precision cleaves from each and every cleaver blade.
